He teaches "Network Society and Information Technology and the Global University" - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html - on Harvard's virtual Island (not on Harvard University's faculty) in Second Life and in Google group video Hangouts, and as World University and School faculty. In the classroom, he's taught both anthropology and sociology at Chatham University, at the University of Pittsburgh, at the University of California, Santa Barbara, at Penn State-New Kensington, and at UC Berkeley. Scott G.K. MacLeod is also an American academic and Professor of Sociocultural Anthropology and Sociology at World University and School. He is currently also the publisher at the Academic Press at World University and School. MacLeod was born in 1960 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, at a time when his parents were living in Lexington, MA. His parents met and married in the Unitarian church of Cincinnati, Ohio. (His father was a MD, who also taught medical grand rounds as a quick knowledgeable diagnostician, and a professor of public health, and his mother became the director of social work in a large urban hospital, returning to university after her 2 children had grown up a bit). Scott grew up on the eastern seaboard of the U.S., attending Shady Side Academy in Pittsburgh, PA, from which he received a diploma, and Reed College in Portland, Oregon, where he received a Bachelor's degree (1985) in Religion (and German). He then received a Master's Degree (2003) in sociocultural Anthropology (with a focus on information technologies) from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and he also received a Diploma of Research (2004) in Ethnology (with an examination of virtual 'place') from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
