World University and School {in a virtual world}

Welcome to World University and School Wiki
which anyone can add to or edit.
The Global, Virtual/Digital, Open, Free, {potentially Degree- and Credit-Granting},
Multilingual University & School
where anyone can teach or take a class or course

Mission

World University & School's (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University - like Wikipedia with MIT Open Course Ware) - mission, in reaching out to the entire world, is to provide a free, wiki-based education platform, with FREE DEGREES, and, through facilitating the development of broadband worldwide, to make our service accessible to under served parts of the world. The WUaS mission is thus to facilitate all levels of teaching and learning opportunities (and future degrees) through an open, editable wiki in all languages, nation-states and subjects with great universities, and for One Laptop per Child countries and everyone.

Master Plan

To Do List

(Business Plan)

(WUaS Information Technologies and Data Plan)

"All Ways Free" to students. Budget for this in perpetuity (perhaps like Tokyo University and Scandinavian universities).

Year 2010

Technologies:

Database of open Teaching and Learning Materials, in all languages; anyone may teach to their web camera in this open wiki. Information technologies here include human minds. Anyone may teach to and learn, in real time, in a virtual world, like Second Life, using the wiki-like Google calendar, for example.

Video capable hand held computer devices (e.g. OLPC and mobile computer devices - with robust video bandwidth and infrastructure in OLPC countries, and everywhere).

Translation between all languages. Building on Google Translate and others? Be able to add Languages wiki-like?

Outputs:

Laptop/Desktop - One Laptop per Child size screen (6x4 inches), capable of virtual worlds like Second Life, and all related technologies as they develop, as well as streaming video; web pages - markup languages, what people create and do with this, etc.

Classroom - MIT OCW & Khan Academy, for example, in Arabic on Egyptian classroom projectors (even on little Pica projectors) through World University & School: http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Languages? (Each language at WUaS will become its own ONLINE University or School wiki for people-to-people teaching & learning, too).

Mobile - Handheld size screen (3x2 inches); NY Times' mobile format, with video?

Printer - Printable teaching and learning materials from World University & School for OLPC countries, and everyone, from OLPC and hand held devices.

Plan for Google TV

New Technologies:

Engage, and help to generate, new technological developments (partnering with MIT?) robustly, as they emerge.

Budget robustly for technological innovation and experimentation.

Become the low cost worldwide provider of internet access, focusing on the OLPC countries.
