Mission |
Mission |
The mission of World University and School (http://worlduniversityandschool.org - like Wikipedia with best STEM-centric OpenCourseWare) is to facilitate all levels of teaching and learning through open, editable wikis. WUaS plans to accredit at the university and high school levels to offer online degrees and diplomas. WUaS’s wiki will involve open and editable teaching and learning but also non-editable courses prepared under a Creative Commons’ license. WUaS will facilitate the use of free CC courses as credits toward degrees. Due to the rapid spread of broadband worldwide, WUaS plans to make this accessible to underserved parts of the world and to poor people everywhere. WUaS will explore the possibility of using universal translators to extend the project automatically to any language with time. |
World University & School's (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University - like Wikipedia with MIT Open Course Ware) - mission, in reaching out to the entire world, is to provide a free, wiki-based education platform and, through facilitating the development of broadband worldwide, to make our service accessible to under served parts of the world. The WUaS mission is thus to facilitate all levels of teaching and learning opportunities (and future degrees) through an open, editable wiki in all languages, nation-states and subjects with great universities, and for One Laptop per Child countries and everyone. |

To facilitate all levels of teaching and learning opportunities (and potentially degrees, eventually) through an open, editable wiki in all languages, nation-states and subjects with great universities, and for One Laptop per Child countries and everyone, World University and School needs an endowment which we will seek to grow through grants and other funding sources. |

Endowment goals |
Fiscal year, 2015 (ending December 31, 2015): |
World University and School would like to build a $1.5 trillion U.S. dollar endowment in the first 10 years, and an additional $1.5 trillion dollar endowment, in the second 10 years. |
$500,000 dollars |
5 interns in the first year. |
WUaS Business |
World University and School will raise funds for World University and School's endowment. |
WUaS Five Year Plan |
The primary goal of this business is to build an endowment of U.S. $1.5 trillion (in 2009 dollars) in 10 years (by 2020) to support development of World University and School, and another U.S. $1.5 trillion in the second 10 years (by 2030). |
"The TOTAL resource requirements (financial, human, legal, marketing, etc) of a minimum 5-year plan with objectives, milestones, and target measurable indicators, need to be spelled out, together with a funding strategy and resource mobilization and implementation strategy." |
We would like to make an university and school for all One Laptop Per Child countries, and indeed all languages, nation states, subjects, and levels. |

The WUaS foundation will pay a large network of teachers and salaries, partner with great universities, and facilitate connecting with the poorest parts of the world and the developing world. |

Compensation for Universitians (what World University calls its participants). |
Goal in 2010: $1,000,000 the first year, the remainder of which doesn't get spent (below $600,000?) goes into the Endowment |
Quarter 2 |
1 General Manager $70,000 – who is the Go To person |
1 Head Fundraiser $50,000 - (+ 50% of 1st $100,000, 40% of next $250,000 they raise) – to build a growing team of fundraisers. Develops plan for $1.5 trillion endowment over 10 years. |
Each of these could hire 1-5 interns in the first year. |
Quarter 3 |
While WUaS is 'placeless,' a number of the first Universitians live in or around Berkeley, California, and we'd like to hire, for example, 2-10 UC Berkeley or Stanford University interns @ $11.50 an hour (but also, potentially, the brightest 20-25 year old students in the world e.g. MIT, Ivy League students, University of Tokyo, Michigan, Cambridge, Oxford, Berlin, etc.) for up to 20 hours a week, posting the job possibilities on the WUaS wiki page. We'd like to then hire 20-100 interns in the 2nd year. |
Quarter 4 |

We're not only developing education jobs (we would like to hire a lot of Ph.D.s, after interns), we would also like to build everything associated with modern education, almost exclusively digitally. For example, an online hospital for teaching and learning, an online dental school, veterinary medicine school, etc., as well as potentially develop hardware like video-capable, wireless handheld devices, for 3000-8000 languages. WUaS is open to all subjects, but will stay away from weapons, bomb, nuclear-weapon and related teaching and learning material. In creating World University & School, we're developing a free, open, virtual university & school, potentially in all languages, nation states, subjects and at all levels. |

WUaS is a compelling idea that needs support to be realized. |

WUaS is listed in Guidestar.org - https://www.guidestar.org/organizations/27-3105368/world-university-school.aspx (as of July 2014). |

"Most schools have their money in roughly four buckets: 1) general, 2) plant, 3) endowment, and 4) grants. Most for-profits, Jim notes, have just one such bucket; the nature of the accounting in schools is different in this important way. There are three types of money: 3) permanently restricted (e.g., many endowed funds); 2) temporarily restricted (e.g., grants and other “use-it-or-lose-it money”); and 3) unrestricted (within reason; the board can still constrain its usage somewhat, if needed). Jim emphasized the importance for heads of institutions to be the “translator” of the financial issues related to the school for the community at large. He cites to Herzlinger’s four questions that we (as leaders and trustees) should ask about the financials regularly: 1) are the organization’s goals consistent with its resources?; 2) are the sources and uses of resources matched?; 3) is there intergenerational equity?; and, 4) are present resources sustainable? ”High performing organizations aren’t just lucky,” Jim tells us. Another good line: in education, “you can’t cut your way to prosperity.”" (Harvard business school Professor James P. Honan) |

Govind Nair suggests (April 2013): Business plan + proof of concept. Upstream U.S. based pilot with students, platform, operational + pedagogical delivery; Malaysia as a testbed for globalizing a MIT-centric education model - requires global sponsors. Find sponsors whose contributions would cover capital and operating costs of an initial 4 year pilot program leading to MIT OCW-centric degree virtually delivered. Cost model + financing plan + model from operating and capital costs over 4 year program with financing plan. Map out marketing plan to concurrently develop or follow financing plan. |

Welcome to World University and School Wiki
which anyone can add to or edit.
The Global, Virtual/Digital, Open, Free, {potentially Degree- and Credit-Granting},
Multilingual University & School
where anyone can teach or take a class or course
Welcome to World University and School, a global, virtual, digital, open, (potentially degree-granting - bachelor, Ph.D., I.B., law, M.D., & Music School, etc.), free-to-students, university and school, with great universities (e.g. MIT OCW, Ivy League Schools, Stanford, U.C. Berkeley, Oxford, T.U.M., Sorbonne, L.M.U., Juilliard Music School, Cambridge, Collège de France, Cal Tech, B.T.U., University of Chicago, etc.) as key web content generators, based on a Wikipedia with MIT Open Course Ware model, especially for the developing world, and for everyone.
Mission

WUaS Idea- and Academic Resources[edit]
Ideas[edit]
WUaS is listed in Guidestar.org - https://www.guidestar.org/organizations/27-3105368/world-university-school.aspx (as of July 2014).
WUaS also has a new domain name - http://worlduniversityandschool.org .
Honan)
- WUaS Business Plan: Customer Statements, Value Propositions, Channels (to be trusted), Customer Relationships, Revenue Streams, Key Resources, Key Activities, Key Partners, and Cost Structure. Learn how these interrelate, and watch Alexander Osterwalder's video about this here: http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/Business_Management.
